"A Perfectly Sweet Ending for the Tigers in the Sugar Bowl" On January 3, 2005 the New Orleans Superdome provided the setting for a chance at perfection for the Southeastern Conference Champion Auburn Tigers. The Tigers outlasted a tough Virginia Tech team 16-13 to secure their place in history as one of the greatest Auburn teams of all time and finish their season without a blemish: 13-0. Coming into the battle against the ACC Champion Virginia Tech Hokies, the Tigers knew that national title hopes were slim, but were intent on proving that they were as good as any team in the nation. Auburn roared to a fast start, then settled into a comfortable 9-0 halftime lead. MVP Jason Campbell connected on a 53-yard pass and then a quick five-yard touchdown to increase the lead to 16-0. Virginia Tech threatened to spoil perfection with two fourth quarter touchdowns and cut Auburns lead to 3. However, Auburn was intent to finish their perfect season and hold on to the end. The Hokies could not recover an onside kick and Auburn ran out the clock making them the 2005 Sugar Bowl Champions.
